In the past, the wild and wandering Rhine has modeled a typical lanscape made of branches and islands, where an alluvial luxuriant forest has developed. To save the remainders of this fantastic biotope, national and european savety measures have been taken. Thus in the heart of the Offendorf forest site, an area of 110 ha has been listed in two natural protected reserves. In these areas where the nature evolves according to its own cycles and laws, can only be visited on foot to discover eco-systems where alternate willows plantations, poplars groves, forest of hard wood ans reeds plantations housing a rich fauna and flora.
